Frozen Berries: Healthy Pantry Item
Berries are a wonderful addition to your diet, like other fruits they’re a good source of fibre, vitamin C and antioxidants. In particular these little powerhouses are high in a group of plant compounds called polyphenols which are important at protecting our cells from damage.
We actually don’t know which berries are the ‘best’ and all the studies so far have concluding that eating some mixed berries everyday can have a positive effect on your heart health, bone density and even prevent type 2 diabetes, cancer, neurological decline and ageing.
So take your pick, enjoy your favourite and enjoy them often. It doesn’t have to be fresh raspberries for $25 a kg either. Strawberries, mulberries and frozen mixed berries (used here in this smoothie) are affordable ways to include berries into your daily diet.
