Empty Tenancy Becomes Salvos Support Station

19 Nov 2018

An empty tenancy at Maddington Central has been repurposed as a drop off zone for spare food to support the needy at Christmas.

“The shoppers are being so generous, as soon as the sign went up there were people putting in cans of soup and vegetables, one person even gave us three boxes of Roses chocolates,” says Centre Manager, Ronan McDonagh.

“We try to activate any tenancies that become vacant with eye catching signage, and with the Salvation Army doing our Christmas wrapping again this year, it was a perfect opportunity.”

The drop off zone is set up opposite the food court and will be open until the new year. Non-perishables like canned or jarred foods are preferred. Packet pastas and recipe bases are also good options.

“We’ve raised about $1,000 in food so far, and we’re hoping to triple that before Christmas,” says Ronan.

The Salvation Army will also be gift wrapping at Maddington Central from Friday 7th December, located just outside the drop off zone. All gift wrap is donated by the Centre.

Vicinity Centres is proud to partner with the Salvation Army at a number of locations around Australia as one of their preferred charities.
