The Naughty Fairy Trap: Kids Craft

02 Mar 2018

Did you know that Leprechauns are a type of fairy, though it's important to note that the fairies of Irish folklore were not cute little pixies; they could be very naughty.  So we are going to try to capture those naughty fairies with our pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

At Maddington Central, we have all the goodies you need to create your very own Naughty Fairy Trap. This is how you make it, follow the links in the instructions on where you can buy all of these supplies from, if you don’t already have them at home.

Paper Plate

Paint, textas or pencils

Yellow paper

Gold Glitter (optional)

Cotton Wool Balls

Step 1: Using your pencil draw a line through the half way point of the inner circle.

Step 2: Using the scissors, you may need the help of an adult here, cut along the pencil line you just created and around the top half of the inner circle.

Step 3: Colour or paint the bottom half of the paper plate in black.  This will become your pot.

Step 4: Then using the colours of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet) create your rainbow on the top half of the plate.

Step 5: Grab some yellow paper, we used origami squares (or make your own by colour in some white paper with yellow pencil) cut out five round circles for the gold.  If you have some gold glitter, you can use that to make your gold coins super sparkly!

Step 6:

Glue your gold coins to the back of the black pot.  Then take your cotton wool balls and glue three balls to the bottom of each end of the rainbow to form clouds.

Step 7:

Hang your rainbow near your fairy garden (if you have one at home) or somewhere in your garden where you think mischievous leprechauns might hide and see if you can catch one yourself!

If your little lamb needs your undivided attention during these type of activities, but wants to do it all themselves, how about heading over to FAIRE & Co and downloading their Shamrock Zen colouring page, which you can colour in all the shades of green you like whilst the rainbow is being made.

Stay tuned each month for more craft ideas from FAIRE & Co, using products you can find in your home or at one of our many stores at Maddington Central.
